Description
This is a very unique riding shirt from the Hermes Department Equitation which I purchased from a U.S. Hermes boutique in the mid-1980’s.It is really quite a sartorial piece of art.
And I’ve never seen another quite like it.
Fabric: Lightweight flannel, 83% cotton and 17% wool, light tan ground with a multi-color tattersall pattern.
Sleeves: Long sleeve construction with tab/roll-up straps, cuffs are double button and mitered.
Collar: Removeable button down collar.
Pockets: Left side breast pocket, patch, flap, and button.
Buttons: Real horn, self-posted, with applied Hermes hunting horn medallions.
The medallions have two cast “pins” that allow them to be attached to two holes drilled through the button surface.
(Really elaborate way to mount them.)
The medallions feature a hunting horn with the words “HERMES SELLIER A PARIS” cast into the medallion.
(If you are not aware, “SELLIER” is “SADDLER” in English.)
Size: Hermes Size 3 (This sizing was used in the Equestrian line in the 80’s.
Size 1 = Small, Size 2 = Medium, Size 3 = Large.)
Collar – 15 ½ inches
Back (at shoulder) – 19 inches
Chest (at armpit) – 23 inches
Sleeve Length (from center of collar to cuff) – 35 ½ inches
Back Length (from base of collar) – 29 inches
Condition:
Unworn. I purchased it thinking it was 100% cotton.
I can’t tolerate wool against my skin, so it has just occupied space in a closet.
It has been well stored, has been dry cleaned recently, and shows some minor pilling here and there on the exterior from hanging in the closet.
