    Description

Cowboy slicker/duster.    Made by SIMCO in the late 1960s or early 70s.    USED.     Size MEDIUM, which mean it fits someone wearing a Size 42 coat & weighs approximately 175-185 lbs.    The person modeling the slicker for the photo weighs 200 lbs & just barely got the front snaps closed.     He's also 6-feet tall & the hem of the garment reaches to about his mid-calf.     Made of heavy weight cotton canvas/duck.    Reminds me of tent canvas or boat sail material.    As a result, it is bulky & somewhat stiff for shipping purposes.    Off-white color.    8 metal snap buttons on front & 2 on the back; which is split, with gusset, for sitting astride a horse.    Condition is very good, with no rips, tears, holes, & with all snaps in good working order.    Has had honest use with no abuse.    A little dirty, so it needs to be hand-cleaned according to the instructions found on the label at the collar.
SIMCO, originally owned by the Crates family in partnership with the Sims family making saddles, was located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with 2 manufacturing plants, one in Maryville.    So, made in USA.    In 1981, after selling the  SIMCO brand to The Action Company, Inc., the Crates family & many of their original employees established the Crates Leather Co. & soon merged with FabTron, Inc.    They continue to make very high quality saddles & a complete line of tack.
Would one call this slicker "vintage?"     Yes, most likely.    I was married in 1970, and our grandchildren call my lovely bride and me "vintage."     So, there you have it; a vintage slicker.
