Vinyl Chips Flakes To Decorate Floor Coating
Decorative vinyl color chips/flakes are specially formulated paint aggregates used to enhance the aesthetic qualities of seamless epoxy, polyurea, polyaspartic and urethane resin-based flooring systems. They can be used on commercial, residential and industrial floor projects. This unique product is random in shape, sized within a standardized range in 6 sizes (1", 1/2", 1/4", 1/8", 1/16", 1/32"). Shown below are 23 blended color combinations.
Chips/flakes are broadcast into colored epoxy, polyurea, polyaspartic or urethane base coating. When the coating is tack free and ready to be re-coated, excess chips are cleaned off surface and one or two coats of a clear topcoat are applied. How thick or number of topcoats required depends on the amount of flakes used. More flakes = more clear topcoats to properly cover.
Chips are purchased in 10 lb quantities unless otherwise noted and then in 25 lb or 40 lb boxes only. Chips are available in standard 1/4 size and 1/8 as noted.
Flakes can be ordered in any size 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 and 1. Use the CUSTOM FLAKE selection on the color drop down menu and then simply tell us in the Notes Section the size you want. This will be subject to a 2 week lead time.
How many lbs of chips to use depends on look desired. The more chips the less you see of the basecoat color and more of the chips you see. For a partial broadcast, apply chips at the rate of 1 lb chips per 20 sq’ to 200 sq’ of floor. For full broadcast to refusal 1 lb chips covers 6-8 sq’ for 1/4″ chips and 5-7 sq’ for 1/8″ chips. Full broadcast means chips applied so heavy the coating can’t absorb anymore and floor is no longer wet.
**Earth tone vinyl chip/flake colors offer long term UV stability for outdoor applications. However blends with intense, rich and bright colors such not recommended for outdoor use as they will fade and shift in color over 1-2 year period. For all outdoor applications need to use an Aliphatic clear coating that will not yellow to maintain maximum UV stability.
